Understanding the differences in the Light Sport category.

The Carbon Cub kit is assembled as an Experimental/Amateur-Built category aircraft. With that designation comes the flexibility for the kit manufacturer to offer a variety of engines and other options so that builders can customize the project to their tastes, unlike an SLSA, which comes from the factory as is, ready to fly.

Question: I have a question about Light Sport Aircraft, probably one you get often. As I understand it, there’s Special Light Sport (SLSA) and Experimental Light Sport (ELSA). I know one is factory built and the other is a kit. Beyond that, what’s the difference? …
