DRE Communications has made significant improvements to the monaural, passive-noise-reduction DRE1000 budget headset, now known as the DRE1001. Available with black or white ear cups, the DRE1001 features an improved microphone boom that stays where its placed, and the previous foam ear seals have been replaced with gel-filled versions. These gel ear seals had only been available on the higher-end DRE headsets.
The DRE1001 also features gold-plated mic and phone plugs, independent volume controls, a voice-optimized microphone, an air-filled, pillowtop headband, and a three-year factory warranty. Weight is 14.5 ounces, and noise reduction is now better than 24 decibels. Retail price is listed at $144, but most retailers plan on a street price of about $15 less.
