WAC Spirit Debuts at AirVenture

The Spirit Light Sport Aircraft made its first appearance at the show this year. Available as a kit or ready to fly as an SLSA, the Spirit is powered by a 100 horsepower Rotax 912 ULS engine (Lycoming and Continental engines are options) and carries 24 gallons of fuel (34 optional) in two welded aluminum tanks. Dual sticks lay down for ease of entry and egress, and the panel is big enough for a glove box.

Standard equipment includes a 10-inch EFIS, 760-channel radio, padded glareshield with card compass and exterior LED lighting. An autopilot and transponder are inexpensive add-ons.

WAC says the Spirit takes off in 262 feet and lands in 148. Stall speed with flaps is 35 mph, and range with no reserve and standard tanks is 600 miles.

The price for a “completely assembled” kit is $37,985 (all components of the airplane are completed and fitted, and then the aircraft is disassembled and crated). A “partially assembled” kit is $32,995 (all essential elements that need special skill are assembled, positioned and rigged).
