With all the emphasis on new-generation kitbuilt aircraft-and, sometimes to the gnashing of teeth from the old-school builders in our midst-it might be easy to discount the strong spirit of constructing from scratch that remains. (Few better example exist than the stunning Sequoia Falco on this months cover.) For 2008, our Plans Aircraft Directory shows the category to remain vital. Some 164 aircraft designs from 60 companies are represented here, and offer arguably the best chance to create a one-of-a-kind aircraft for as little cash outlay as possible. Starting from scratch is the way our sport got started, and it remains enticing today.
