radiant turn coordinatorRadiant Technology has introduced a new instrument designed to add a layer of safety and value for the experimental aircraft builder—a 3 and 1/8-inch panel-mount Turn Coordinator that includes an altimeter and an internal battery backup, all with an introductory price of $199.95.

Designed specifically for the homebuilt market, the new unit provides critical turn and altitude information even if the aircraft’s main power fails. Its solid-state design means it provides the same information as a traditional vacuum or high-end electric gyro but can recover almost instantly from events that would tumble older mechanical units.

James Wiebe, CEO of Radiant, highlighted the instrument’s role as a redundant system. “This Turn Coordinator helps pilots maintain a level plane via turn coordination and provides feedback on altitude via a digital altimeter, offering impressive backup instrumentation,” he said. “It is a great value for home-builders, and an excellent choice to be installed beside far more expensive high-dollar glass instruments.”

The unit is designed to fit a standard 3 and 1/8-inch panel cutout and features an ultra-brilliant, high-contrast display that is dimmable for night operations. In addition to the turn information and inclinometer, it includes a digital altimeter with a standard Kollsman window for setting the barometric pressure. The altimeter is functional from 0 to 20,000 feet, and Radiant states that when calibrated, its technology can meet the applicable portion of the TSO for altitude accuracy.

Power is supplied by the aircraft’s 12-volt electrical system, which also automatically charges the internal battery. The display provides continuous feedback on the battery’s state of charge and shows the external voltage, color-coding the display if power drops below 12 volts. In the event of a total ship power failure, the internal battery can run the unit for over three hours.

It is important to note that this product is not tested to TSO standards, nor is it produced in a PMA facility, and is therefore intended for use only in experimental aircraft.

The new Turn Coordinator (part number RI-2025-7) is available for an introductory price of $199.95 through August 2025, with the first shipments slated for late October of this year.
