wings over willamette stol warsThe Wings Over Willamette Fly-In & STOL WARS is set to return to Oregon’s Independence State Airport (7S5) the weekend of August 16–17, 2025, offering a packed schedule of flying, education, and community for pilots, aviation fans, and families alike.

The event kicks off Saturday morning with a classic pancake breakfast and a series of aviation forums. Highlights include a behind-the-scenes look at Van’s Aircraft RV-15, presented by Chief Engineer Rian Johnson, and a dive into Oregon’s aviation roots with speakers from the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAAM) and the Oregon Aviation Historical Society. Test pilot and air racer Pete Zaccagnino will share stories from the cockpit, and YouTube personality Juan Browne (Blancolirio channel) will lead a panel discussion on STOL and backcountry flying.

A variety of Oregon aviation organizations will be on-site, including the Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF), the Ninety-Nines, the Oregon Pilots Association, DART, WAAAM, the Oregon Aviation Historical Society, and the Salem B-17 Alliance. Attendees can learn about volunteer efforts, scholarship opportunities, and youth programs such as Young Eagles and Teen Build. A foamy airplane-building activity and other hands-on exhibits will make the event accessible and fun for families.

Sunday is all about action in the air, as STOL WARS takes center stage. Short takeoff and landing competitors from around the Pacific Northwest will showcase their skills in everything from rugged bush planes to purpose-built STOL machines. Spectators are encouraged to grab a front-row seat—Juan Browne will return as live commentator for one of the most exciting aviation events in the region.

Thanks to the support of sponsors Van’s Aircraft, Rosen Sunvisor Systems, and Pure Flight, the weekend promises both inspiration and entertainment. Exhibitors will be available throughout the event.

Visitors are welcome to fly in or drive in. Shuttle service will be provided from designated parking areas. On-site lodging is available through Independence Airpark hosts, and additional accommodations can be found nearby in downtown Independence.

General admission is $10 for adults; attendees under 18 get in free. Meal tickets will be available for pancake breakfasts, burger lunches, and a Saturday night premiere dinner (limited seating available).

Proceeds benefit EAA Chapter 292 and its youth aviation programs, including Young Eagles flights and scholarships.
