SilverLight Aviation is set to introduce its newest aircraft—the Recon Airplane—to a national audience at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025, where it will be available for orders for the first time. The Recon made its initial debut at Sun ’n Fun 2024 in Lakeland, Florida.
“The Recon is our response to the needs of the U.S. market,” said Abid Farooqui, president and founder of SilverLight Aviation. “American pilots wanted more space, comfort, baggage capacity, and utility. The Recon delivers on all those requirements and is available in both tailwheel and tri-gear configurations to give pilots the flying experience they desire.”
Built on the Avid Flyer platform, the Recon is a quick-build kit featuring a folding high-wing design. The kit starts at $75,000 and comes covered and painted, complete with wheels, brakes, and an aluminum leaf spring undercarriage.
Engine compatibility includes the Rotax 912, 915, and 916 series, with firewall-forward packages available as separate options. Other add-ons include a propeller, avionics, wiring, and popular upgrades like oversized tailwheel tires (available for $1,800).
Designed for ease of assembly, the Recon can be completed using common tools—making it ideal for hands-on builders looking for an accessible and capable backcountry aircraft.
See the Recon in person at booth 356 during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025.
