SiriusXM and Dynon-owned Advanced Flight Systems have teamed up to introduce SiriusXM Aviation weather and related information to the AF-5000/6000 Series Avionics System via a new satellite weather receiver. Pilots flying with these EFIS units will soon have seamless, nationwide weather coverage—without the line-of-sight and altitude limitations of ADS-B.
“This is an exciting opportunity for pilots who haven’t had the option to use SiriusXM Aviation directly on their avionics,” said Radhika Giri, SiriusXM’s senior vice president of emerging business. “Now they can fly confidently, knowing SiriusXM delivers superior weather and related information—helping them make the best decisions.”
“A good pilot appreciates redundancy,” added Rob Hickman, president of Advanced Flight Systems. “This satellite-based solution provides weather service when ADS-B may not be available, such as on the ground, in mountainous terrain or in southern Canada.”
Key advantages of SiriusXM Aviation over ADS-B weather include:
- No line-of-sight restrictions
- No altitude limitations
- Seamless, coast-to-coast coverage with no gaps
- Canadian weather data
- Continuous updates from taxi to landing
The new receiver—and SiriusXM’s XMWX weather subscription plans—will be available on the AF-5000/6000 Series in the coming months, with additional avionics integrations planned soon. A prototype AF-6600 EFIS showcasing live SiriusXM Aviation weather is on display at AirVenture (July 21–27, 2025) in Oshkosh; Find Advanced Flight Systems at Hangar D, Booth 4034, and SiriusXM Aviation in Tent 318.
