This battery hold-down bracket was discovered in an RV-10 during a condition inspection. It is a very serious safety issue that probably needs no explaining.
The cause is most likely due to a bracket that was installed under stress with improper edge distance for the bolt hole, which eventually elongated and failed. It also should have had a lockwasher or at least a fiber lock nut.
