Organizing Rivets

We all have the same problem: Organization eludes us. It can be a nightmare when we start driving rivets. Sometimes you have several sizes of rivets spread out on the bench. What always seems to happen next? They get mixed up, and you can’t tell which is a 3.5 or 4 in length.

Paul Killeen suggested storing rivets in clear water bottles on VansAirForce.net. If you knock one over with the cap off, most of the rivets will stay in the bottle. I took his idea one step further. Get several paper bowls from the kitchen. Jot the rivet part number in the bottom of the bowl with a Sharpie. Pour what you need in the bowl, and no more confusion. Use as many as needed for the job, then just stack the bowls up for the next project. Organization doesn’t get any easier than that!
